Job Description
Functions:
Under the direction of the Athletic Supervisor and the Gymnastics Instructor, the Junior Gymnastics Instructor assists in the planning, organization and instruction of assigned gymnastics classes offered at the Bloomingdale Park District.
Immediate Supervisor:
Reports to the Athletic Supervisor.
Qualifications:- Must be at least 15 years of age.
- Ability to assist with activities related to gymnastics for children at assigned age level.
- CPR and First Aid certified (if not, willing to be certified through the Park District within 90 days of hire). Certification must be from an accredited agency.
- Complete Bloomingdale Park District’s required trainings within two weeks of hire.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with Park District staff and the general public.
- Ability to assist in stressful situations and have good problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow directions from the Athletic Supervisor, Gymnastics Instructor, and coworkers.
- Must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Must have previous experience and knowledge of gymnastics.
- Must have knowledge of spotting gymnastics and be physically able to perform spotting students when learning and performing skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Functions- Assist with maintaining program and participant records.
- Assist in taking attendance.
- Assist with the maintenance and safe and proper use of program supplies and equipment.
- Maintain the program environment in a clean and orderly fashion.
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for participants.
- Follow all safety procedures.
- Communicate effectively with staff, participants, and parents.
- Assist with gymnastic classes for 12 months – 14 yr. olds.
- Clean equipment.
- Assist in performing equipment safety checks according to established procedures.
Marginal Functions- Assist with Gymnastics Birthday Parties.
- Attend special events and help at the Tumbling Play Station.
- Assist with the Cartwheels & Crafts program.
- Attend Park District meetings/staff training.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Hours and Compensation:
The position of Junior Gymnastics Coach/Staff is a part-time hourly position and is paid every two weeks at an agreed hourly pay rate. The position is classified as a non-exempt hourly employee status and will work anywhere from 1-15 hours per week. The hours worked on a daily basis will vary. Environmental Considerations:- May be exposed to all weather conditions especially extreme heat and sun.
- May be exposed to heat, air conditioning, lighting, while working indoors.
Cognitive Considerations:- Must be able to follow directions and perform work activities as assigned by the Program Coordinator and Instructor.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and be organized in their daily tasks.
- Must be able to work closely with co-workers and other employees.
- Must be able to present ideas and recommendations in a clear and concise manner.
- Must use good judgment and possess and use effective problem-solving skills.
Psychological Considerations:- The Junior Gymnastics Coach/Staff assists with ensuring safe and well-organized programs.
- Must be able to respond to situations in a mature manner and within the policies and procedures of the Bloomingdale Park District.
Physiological Considerations:- Lift and carry supplies and equipment up to 40 pounds.
- Running, stretching, jumping and other sports related movements required.
- Must be able to physically administer CPR and First Aid, as necessary.
